Velodyne lidar is currently seeking an Engineering Manager to build and eventually lead our sensor calibration group. We have several global production partnerships and are scaling up lidar production to meet tomorrow’s demands.
Our lidars’ range and reflectivity measurements are a gold standard for the industries that we serve, and accurate and scalable sensor calibration is a key requirement.
Specific Job Requirements :
This position will build and be a part of our core sensor calibration team for intrinsic range and reflectivity calibration of all our lidar products
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, firmware, optics, ASIC and software to design and streamline calibration procedures for new and existing products
Manage all aspects of sensor calibration from algorithm development, validation and sensor correlation and implementation.
Help set goals, strategies, budgets and oversee deployment of robust and scalable calibration procedures and software
Assist with establishing best engineering practices through solid design decisions, processes and tools
Be hands on with algorithm development, coding and a stickler for best engineering practices
Knowledge :
Strong software design, algorithm, problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong programming skills in at least one language such as C++ or Python
Strong hands on work ethic, willing to actively test sensors and collect test.
Willing to break down barriers and reach across teams to solve problems
Strong organization and prioritization skills along with outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Ability to understand system level sensor performance
Strong mathematics, physical modeling and simulation skills
Familiarity with calibration technique for Lidar sensors or other sensors with complex optics
Preferred Education and Experience Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics or related field
5+ years experience developing production grade test software systems through entire life cycle from design to integration and deployment to continuous improvement
Experience building and leading a team of Engineers to fulfill key functions in product development
Experience with growing technical leadership, managing teams and setting overall technical direction and roadmaps for an organization
Experience with mid to high volume production environments
