As a Senior Data Center Engineer you will be based in San José, Costa Rica. You will be working at Roche Global Shared Service Center, which is one of the Roche Shared Services Centers worldwide providing IT, Finance, Procurement services to various countries in the Americas region
In this role you will be reporting to Manager Role.
You will drive operational excellence and provide business guidance to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of IT Shared Services to affiliates across all divisions, business units and locations.
You will also need to solve a variety of complex business problems through creative and practical application of technologies.
To solve complex issues and needs, where analysis of situations or data requires systems thinking and an in depth evaluation of variable factors, including
technology dependencies and inter-organizational impacts.
To contribute to and technically lead challenging projects which require deep technical knowledge and infrastructure engineering skills.
To be responsible and accountable for decisions in technical design, build and testing, in assigned projects and activities.
To exercise sound judgement and effective consultation with key stakeholders to obtain the desired results.
To significantly influence vendor product selection and improvements to Roche IT infrastructure.
Your main task will include :
To lead and contribute to the end-to- end design of infrastructure solutions and the creation and maintenance of related component standards.
To produce and maintain sufficient documentation for technical designs and component standards.
To interact with senior internal and external partners on technical matters as they relate to prioritized objectives.
To strengthen the overall Engineering community by collaborating with Principal Engineers, Senior Engineers, Engineers and Associate Engineers in other infrastructure solution areas.
To help determine success criteria and evaluate promising solutions and technologies via feasibility studies within their infrastructure solution area, as they relate to meeting Roche’s business needs.
To visualize, design, build, test, and implement integrated, resilient and reliable solutions in multiple solution areas.
To lead small-to- medium sized technical teams for specific objectives in medium-to-large initiatives (projects, lifecycle work, Proofs of Concept, etc.
and to provide the expert guidance required to drive technical developments in these initiatives.
To advise, influence, collaborate with, and integrate feedback from various IT partners including Enterprise Architects, Solution Owners, Component Owners and line-
of- business stakeholders.
To ensure designs and solutions in their infrastructure solution area align and adhere to the organization’s Technical Architecture Framework (TAF) policies, standards and directions.
To map technology roadmaps into portfolio projects and to estimate resources, dependencies, risks, and timelines required to deliver these projects successfully.
To contribute to and or write position papers, white papers, technical recommendations and best practices including use cases for their infrastructure
To remain proactive and aware of operational challenges and opportunities and work with support team staff to resolve incidents.
To ensure solutions and implemented components comply to applicable quality and regulatory standards.
As the ideal candidate for this role, you have a 8-11 years of relevant work experience or 6-9 years with Bachelor’s degree or 3-
6 years with Masters degree.

One or more industry certifications in the respective infrastructure solution area(s) is highly desired.
Qualifications and experience required
8-11 years of relevant work experience or 6-9 years with Bachelor’s degree or 3-6 years with Masters degree.
At least 4 years’ experience in working in one or more multinational work environments (healthcare industry experience is an advantage) as a senior level Infrastructure Engineer, fulfilling the role of Solution Architect or Technical Lead
Have an in-depth knowledge in at least two technologies within their infrastructure solution area and a working knowledge of a majority of the solutions in their area.
Have a detailed understanding of how the IT infrastructure in their areas of responsibility impact respective Roche business processes.
Demonstrable working knowledge in at least 2 of the following sub-domains
Strong background in Linux / Unix Administration
Experience with automation / configuration management using either Ansible, Puppet,
SaltStack or an equivalent.
Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and cloud services (experience with AWS is required, Azure is desired too)
Experience coding and scripting (PHP, Python, Perl and / or Ruby) including the usage of distributed version control and source code management tools (ie GIT)
Experience on leading, designing and implementing continuous deployment pipelines and Infrastructure as Code solutions.
Experience on leading, designing and implementing Test Driven Infrastructure environments.
Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service
Experience applying Scrum and Agile methodologies
