Positions & Duties
TheFleet Management Division in Public Works Department is responsible for themanagement of the City’s fleet including the comprehensive inspection,maintenance, repair, acquisition, and disposal.
The City’s vehicle andequipment fleet currently consists of over 2,700 assets.
The Department of Public Works Fleet Management Division is recruiting to fill anEquipment Mechanic Assistant I / II (EMAI / II) Parts position.
The EMA I / II is responsible for performing inspections,communicating with other staff and customers, servicing, installation ofelectronic electrical equipment, ordering parts, entering data in the fleet managementsystem, road testing and diagnosing problems to make various repairs andadjustments on automotive, heavy truck and / or heavy equipment.
While workingunder general supervision, the EMA I / II will be expected to perform safely andfollow all rules required by the City of San Jose.
This positionwill require working various shift hoursand overtime.

EquipmentMechanic Assistant I / II (PARTS)
Equipment Mechanic Assistant Parts positionorders, receives, and issues automotive, truck, and equipment parts. Researchesand identifies select parts for issue, stocks and verifies inventories, andutilizes the fleet database to manage inventories.
The salary range for this position is $49,587.20 -$66,144.20

EquipmentMechanic Assistant I (EMA I)
1.Education : Successful completion of high school,General Educational Development Certificate (GED), or Californian ProficiencyCertificate.
2.Experience : Two (2) yearsexperience in maintenance of automotive equipment which may include any one ofa combination of servicing vehicles, installation of automotive components andaccessories, or maintenance and disbursement of parts and supply inventories.
EquipmentMechanic Assistant II (EMA II)
1.Education : Successful completion of highschool, General Educational Development Certificate (GED), or CalifornianProficiency Certificate.
2.Experience : Four (4) yearsexperience in the equipment mechanical assistance of automotive equipment whichmay include any one or combination of servicing vehicles, installation ofautomotive components and accessories, or maintenance and disbursement of partsand supply inventories including two (2) years increasingly responsibleexperience equivalent to the level of Equipment Mechanic Assistant I with theCity of San Jose.
Required Licensing (EMAI / II) : Possessionof a valid California driver’s license at all times is a condition ofemployment.
As a condition of employment in some designated positions, acquisition of avalid State of California Class A or B driver’s license with applicableendorsements may be required in the performance of job duties.
