Opera Property Systems Engineer (Location - Working Remote)

The Property Systems Engineer will manage responsibility for Opera Property Systems implementation and operation. They design, implement, deliver project tasks and level III technical support for the customers of those systems.

They maintain communications with appropriate teams and project managers to deliver various Opera and interface projects.

They design runbooks to implement projects in a controlled and predictable manner. They acquire knowledge from all available channels and share with colleagues in order to improve the knowledge level of the Property Systems team.

What is the Opera System?

  • Hotel property management system
  • Developed by Oracle and hosted in the customer datacenter
  • Core to daily hotel operations. (Front desk check-in, back office accounting, interfaces to 200 other systems like door locks, TV's, and garages.)
  • What You Will Do

  • Reports to Sr. Manager of Property Systems. (This is the team responsible for hosting Opera in the customers datacenter)
  • Works very closely with Technical Project Managers and other technical engineers and teams to implement projects related to the Opera hosting.
  • The position is a WFH - remote role. It would require travel 4x year on quarterly basis to Client Site in USA for QBR.
  • Other than that, there would need to be a two-week training back at client site as well upon starting.

  • Depending on the knowledge level and communication competencies the candidate may work remotely.
  • Candidate is expected to put in approximately 40 hours per week. Daily start times are flexible.
  • Be located almost anywhere as long as the candidate can make regular daily team 30-60 min scrum standup mtg.
  • Occasional overtime is expected if project "crunch time" requires it.
  • Occasional late-night hours may be required when supervising off-hours cutovers.
  • Must be able to educate, train or mentor other members within the team with internal tools and skill sets.
  • Hotel / Hospitality operations experience preferred
  • Upgrade Opera grids to the new application versions received from the vendor
  • Standing up a new datacenter or Azure environment in another region
  • Migrating Opera servers and data from standalone hotels to the datacenter
  • Implement EMV payment gateway interface between the datacenter and payment processing companies
  • Testing disaster recover readiness
  • Implementing interfaces / services of additional vendors to / from Opera
  • Building additional non-prod environments to give internal testers more varied test configurations
  • To Be Successful You Will Have

  • Oracle Opera installation experience is highly preferred
  • 5 Years Windows Administrator Experience
  • 1-2 Years Network experience (F5, VIP theory, DNS, Certificates)
  • 1-2 Years working with virtual environments (VSphere)
  • 1-2 Years working with scripting or automation platforms (PowerShell, Ansible, Etc.)
  • Working knowledge of the following toolsets is preferred :
