Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director of Student Conduct and Ethical Development assists with the Student Conduct administration for San Jose State University.
The Assistant Director is responsible for adjudicating an independent caseload of alleged violations of the Student Conduct Code.
The nature of the work performed by the Assistant Director of Student Conduct and Ethical Development is highly sensitive and requires interpretation of CSU and university policies and procedures.
This position works collaboratively with numerous offices and presents workshops and other educational programs to students.
Adjudicates alleged violations of the conduct code in accordance with CSU and SJSU policies and procedures
Utilizes an educational philosophy when adjudicating conduct cases
Independently manages assigned cases from inception through completion ensuring compliance with timelines, due process, and policies
Investigates alleged violations as appropriate
Drafts, reviews, and sends relevant correspondence for assigned cases
Conducts informal and formal proceedings concerning alleged violations of the student and organization conduct codes
Represents the University or assists at formal proceedings (hearings)
Maintains accurate and up to date records of cases and proceedings in Maxient (Student Conduct Database)
Ensures student conduct and organizational conduct records are properly maintained and organized
Creates and develops trainings, workshops, and sanctions to support the prevention and outreach efforts of Student Conduct and Ethical Development
Prepares or assists in the preparation of reports, assessment, and other necessary tasks
Makes appropriate referrals to campus and community resources
Develops and assists with conflict resolution, mediation, restorative justice, and the de-escalation of disputes
Develops and maintains positive working relationships with faculty, staff, and administration at the university in order to best serve students
Assists the Office of Student Conduct and Ethical Development with educating students, faculty, staff, and community members about CSU and SJSU policies and procedure
Assists with the overall management and operations of Student Conduct and Ethical Development
Represents and serves on selected department and university committees

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related
Four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.
A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job-related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career counseling.
Master’s Degree from an accredited institution
