Working with the Service Provider and Edge Business Unit (SEBU) Finance team, this position provides a unique opportunity to be part of a high growth business unit and partner with VP level stakeholders on how to best prioritize investments (ex : hiring ramp, marketing spend, contractor investments, CapEx and equipment).

Finance plays a key role in identifying trade-off opportunities that will allow the BU to grow within an affordable and executable range.

Success in the Role : What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • Within 30 days : Become familiar with the annual plan and recent history ($ budget and headcount) for the 4-5 departments you will support.
  • Build working knowledge of VMware systems such as Hyperion and Workday, including relevant reporting and forecasting capabilities.

  • Within 90 days : Own monthly / quarterly close and forecasting for your departments. Engage with business partners at least 1x a month on budget and hiring status to discuss risks and opportunities.
  • Begin to build your professional network across VMware Finance to learn and share best practices.

  • Within 180 days : Own 2H Plan or Annual Operating Plan process. Meet with stakeholders to discuss priorities and possible trade-offs.
  • Within 360 days : Become a trusted advisor to the VP’s that you support, proactively identifying issues and possible solutions.
  • The Work : What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • Responsible for day-to-day financial support (reqs, PO's, budget management). Control and recommend prioritization of the spend and headcount
  • Maintain and improve forecasting and reporting processes (better accuracy, more efficiency)
  • Review contracts to determine accruals and prepaid accounting treatment as appropriate. Help BU renew contracts as necessary to keep the business running.
  • Assist in projects owned by senior members of the team, share best practices, identify gaps, drive change and help determine priorities.
  • Ensure proper and timely execution of month-end close, forecast, and reporting activities.
  • Drive the annual, quarterly financial planning process for the supported group
  • Work with multiple business partners, develop an understanding of their business and translate that into operational and financial information.
  • Help develop various metrics to monitor health of the business on a regular basis
  • Support ad-hoc management reporting and analysis, as needed
  • Advanced MS Excel skills are needed. Familiarity with Tableau or Power BI is useful but not required.
  • What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

    The hiring manager for this role is Ernesto Rivas, Finance Manager who leads the FP&A team for SEBU Finance. He has been with VMware for seven years.

    As a former analyst supporting SEBU, Ernesto will be a helpful guide to train this new team member. Analysts will begin contributing and owning certain areas within the first couple of weeks of hiring.

    New ideas for process improvement are welcome.

    The extended SEBU Finance team operates out of the (California) and Costa Rica. Our business partners are primarily located across the Most collaboration occurs over Zoom or MS Teams but there will be times when in-office face to face white boarding sessions will be more effective.

    Flexible : The role is considered flexible and will be a mix of working from a local VMware office and remote depending on your preferences and the arrangements determined with your future manager.

    You will be expected to live within a reasonable non-daily commute of the office.
