You will be working with the Modern Applications & Management Business Group (MA&M BG). This position provides a unique opportunity to be part of a high-growth business unit and partner with VP-level stakeholders on how to best prioritize investments (ex : hiring ramp, marketing spending, contractor investments, CapEx, OPEX, and equipment).

Finance plays a key role in identifying trade-off opportunities that will allow the BU to grow within an affordable and executable range

Success in the Role : What are the performance outcomes over the first 6- months you will work toward completing?

As the Senior Financial Analyst at VMware, you will work alongside the business partners in VMware’s Cloud Services Division.

You will provide financial advice, planning, and analysis to the business partner and his / her staff that helps the business meet or exceed goals.

You will maintain adherence to budget by managing the analysis and review of monthly forecast and actuals as well as yearly planning for your business unit.

The role will have strong analytical components, such as variance analysis, headcount, spending, providing timely and accurate financial support and information to your business partners and presenting solutions to on-demand questions.

The Work : What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

Core Job Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for day-to-day financial support.
  • Maintain and improve spending reporting trackers for better support and control of actuals.
  • Support on leading projects owned by finance managers of the team, share best practices, identify gaps, drive change and help determine priorities.
  • Provide R&D investment decisions and review spend & headcount analysis.
  • Drive the annual, quarterly financial planning process for the supported group.
  • Work with multiple business partners, develop an understanding of their business and translate that into operational and financial information.
  • Help develop various metrics to monitor health of the business on a regular basis.
  • Support ad-hoc management reporting and analysis, as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Products FP&A team and other VMware Finance teams to enhance the function’s contribution to the company.
  • Share best practices, identify gaps, lead change and help determine priorities.

    Where is this role located?

    Flexible : The role is considered flexible and will be a mix of working from a local VMware office and remote depending on your preferences and the arrangements determined with your future manager.

    You will be expected to live within a reasonable non-daily commute of the office.

    What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

    The hiring manager for this role is Melissa Arley who leads the FP&A team for MAMBG Finance. She has been with VMware for 6 years.

    Melissa will be a helpful guide to train this new team member. Analysts will begin contributing and owning certain areas within the first couple of weeks of hiring.

    New ideas for process improvement are welcome.

    The extended MAMBG Finance team operates out of the U.S. (California) and Costa Rica. Our business partners are primarily located across the U.

    S. Most collaboration occurs over Zoom or MS Teams but there will be times when in-office face-to-face whiteboarding sessions will be more effective.
