As a Database Administrator you will be based in San José, Costa Rica. You will be working at Roche Services Americas, which is one of the Roche Shared Services Centers worldwide providing IT services to various countries in the Americas region.
In this role you will provide technical and operational support to the database operations group. You will work with multiple Global business functions such as manufacturing, product research, commercial, finance and product development groups.
You will provide Database administration, design, and development support in a DevOps and Continuous Delivery environment, perform daily database operations and support, provide off-
hours maintenance and project support, collaborate with development teams to tune, analyze system performance, database performance, system health checks and implement improvements, contribute to architectural directions and new database features evaluation / implementation.
Your main task will include :
Provide technical leadership to the database operations team to meet the customer’s expectations of a reliable and highly available database service
Articulate technology positions, service descriptions and gaps to peers across the operational and customer organizations
Implementing new Database releases and maintaining operational standards.
Resolve Database Infrastructure issues in coordination with other operational teams
Configure and manage development, UAT and production environments, in accordance to the database standards
Adhere to Database Security policy along with SLAs and OLAs
Have an attitude for continuous improvements to internal processes and optimize delivery of database service
Manage incidents, requests, problems and changes including backup / restores, performance tuning, security etc.
Comply with all regulatory and governance requirements
Ensures ITSM framework, processes, tools and SOPs are used and upheld
Manage multiple Oracle databases in global environment ensuring high-availability, reliability and consistency in support
Assume responsibility for backup and recovery, sizing, security, replication, database optimization, schema creation and maintenance, as well as SQL tuning and code optimization
Perform root cause analysis of complex database problems
As the ideal candidate for this role, you have a degree in BS in Computer Science, engineering or equivalent degree and / or experience.
Expert knowledge in area of expertise and preferably a broad IT experience
Industry recognized certifications in the relevant area a plus.
ITIL knowledge, ITIL Foundation certification an asset
Your further qualifications are (must have and desirable) :
More than 4 year experience working in a production environment, with Oracle and proficient knowledge of MySQL. Knowledge of NoSQL and other database technologies is an asset
1-2 years experience in technical leadership role leading projects and initiatives. (People management experience not necessary)
2-7 years’ experience working in a major, global organization preferably in a regulated Industry
Strong hands-on technical skills, operational background, and working experience with infrastructure technologies and business applications
Strong analytical mindset with technical savvy and awareness of latest technology trends and directions
Understanding of Cloud Databases and Cloud Computing
Experience supporting databases and datastores in DevOps and Continuous Delivery environment
Experience with cloud databases and cloud platform is a plus
Ability to articulate technical positions to all levels of management and to technical as well as non-technical audience
Automation expertise to automate tasks and provide them as APIs to align with Infrastructure-As-A-Code strategy. Fluency in at least one automation tool or language prefered (Python, Perl, Ansible, Jenkins etc.)
Experience in regulated environments with a good understanding of Governance, Compliance and Regulations
ITIL Service Management knowledge and experience an asset
Experienced in working with customers to provide solutions that are aligned with company standards, security, validation, capacity, high availability and identifying potential risks.
Knowledge of emerging database technologies, processes and ability to constantly seeks new opportunities
Strong communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills
Multicultural and international experience preferred
