Receiving work direction from the Interim Medical Director (Physician), and reporting to the Associate Vice President of Health, Wellness, and Student Services, the Psychiatrist works independently in performing assigned student services and consultations with the Student Health Center (SHC) medical staff and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) counseling staff.
Consultation could involve advice regarding psychiatric diagnostic treatment and psychotherapeutic activities and are in accordance with the overall operation of the SHC and within the scope of the program established by the Board of Trustees.
The incumbent may provide highly specialized advice regarding planning, coordinating, and evaluating ongoing psychiatric care of students.
All staff are expected to conform to CSU, State, and Federal regulations and laws. Although unlikely, there may be an occasion of brief evening or weekend work.
Working collegially and collaboratively to support student success is the bottom line purpose of this and all SHC positions.
The Psychiatrist is expected to obtain a detailed intake assessment, as well as to order any appropriate laboratory tests to support diagnostic evaluations.
The Psychiatrist may when appropriate, refer students, to other practitioners with the SJSU Health / Wellness Center. Chronic psychiatric illness may require referral to community resources for more extensive follow-up and treatment.
