Counseling and Psychological Services

Description of Duties
Under the general supervision of the Director and Associate Director of Counseling and Psychological Services, the selected candidate is expected to provide a full range of clinical services, clinical supervision of trainees, and outreach services either within or along with another department collaborating with Counseling and Psychological Services.
Provide brief counseling for students; provide crisis intervention, clinical assessment, triage, and case management; conduct workshops, psycho-educational groups and group therapy;
provide consultation regarding issues that affect the educational, vocational, developmental, and psychological well-being of students in the university community;
provide referrals to and consultation with educational counselors, Student Health Services’ professionals, other campus faculty & staff, and community mental health providers & agencies;
offer occasional evening or weekend outreach presentations; and participate in rotation of after-hours coverage, if needed.
Develop and participate in outreach programs to a metropolitan (largely commuter) campus community with a highly diverse student population;
participate in the development and implementation of assigned outreach projects, e.g., class presentations, residence hall consultations.
As appropriate and at the discretion of the Training Coordinator, provide clinical supervision to practicum trainees, pre-doctoral interns, or post-doctoral residents;
co-facilitate outreach activities, workshops, and groups with all levels of supervisees; provide training and educational seminars for all levels of supervisees.
Interested in serving as training coordinator on a rotational basis.
Service / Committee Work
In keeping with the mission of an urban university, the necessity to relate to the regional area which the university serves, and consistent with the social justice emphasis of Counseling and Psychological Services, counselor faculty members are expected to serve on Department, Division, and University committees.
Candidates must address the mental health, developmental, and academic achievement needs of a student population of great diversity in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
Successful candidates are expected to collaborate and work closely with other disciplines / departments, developing and implementing innovative non-traditional services for the diverse student population.
Doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology from a regionally accredited university and licensed in the State of California (for SSPAR II) or eligible to sit for licensure by the anticipated start date; or
Master’s Degree in Social Work and licensed in the State of California or eligible; or
Graduate Degree in MFT and licensed in the State of California or eligible to sit for licensure by the anticipated start date
Awareness of, sensitivity to, and knowledge in facilitating the personal and educational goals of a multicultural population;
Demonstrated effectiveness in counseling work with a variety of racial / ethnic groups and diversities including multi-racial identity, socioeconomic status, gender, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, disabilities, religion, etc.;
Delivery of personal counseling services in a college or university setting;
Clinical experience with individuals, couples, and groups;
Clinical experience in using a brief therapy model;
Experience and interest in providing innovative and non-traditional services, outreaches, and workshops;
Experience in providing consultation to various stakeholders;
Strong clinical and crisis management skills;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
Strong planning and organizational skills;
Minimum 3 years clinical experience with young adults in individual, couples, and group settings
Strongly prefer interest and experience in working with Latino cultures, student athletes, survivors of sexual assault, and / or individuals with substance use;
Bilingual fluency in Spanish / English and experience conducting therapy in Spanish;
Experience with prevention programs on college campuses regarding issues such as suicide, alcohol / drug use, sexual assault, prejudice, and social injustices;
Experience in providing counseling for eating disorders and body image issues;
Experience in providing counseling for mental health issues such as LGBTQ, gender identity, and / or autistic spectrum;
Experience in supervision and training of graduate level students and interns, and interested in serving as training coordinator on rotation basis or other leadership roles within the department.
Commensurate with experience within ranks established by the CSU Salary Schedule
