Director, Software Engineering

Job Description :

The Software Engineering Director is responsible for managing and leading the design and development of Sage Intacct applications.

The director will provide guidance to team members and drive the overall process of development and delivery. The director is responsible for architectural design issues, coding standards, and overall consistency and quality of the final solution.

The director will identify, hire and build a world-class team of Development Engineers to define, drive and execute on product vision.

Software Engineering Director will initiate processes that allow the team to collaborate with local as well as global teams with a high degree of efficiency.

The director will understand the implications of major design decisions and will be responsible for highlighting important or difficult decisions, ensuring that the trade-offs are considered.

Sage Intacct is built on a scalable, extensible platform that enables rapid application development. The director will help to create these benefits and ensure that major projects build on and do not detract from the overall architecture.

Major features often involve a deep understanding of the financial and accounting implications of the changes that will result, including the impact on reports and usage.

Responsibilities :

  • Direct and manage software engineering resource allocation, schedules, and budget.
  • Lead the design and development of major features
  • Work with Product Management to understand design and feature trade-offs
  • Project management : prioritization, planning of projects and features, stakeholder management and tracking of external commitments
  • Design scalable and repeatable solutions within each major feature
  • Stimulate hiring, training, performance reviews and career plans for software engineering team.
  • Employee development, mentoring, coaching and team building.
  • Help define and implement software development processes
  • Facilitate software development team accomplish optimal team performance.
  • Assist removing technical obstacles, help enhance team processes, handle resource issues and interact with various members to assure sprint iteration and successful product release.
  • Report on project schedule and progress on weekly basis.
  • Monitor technology trends like emerging standards for fresh technology opportunities.
  • Stimulate overall architecture, security, design plus certifications of software products.
  • Review functional specifications and designs
  • Partner with VP of Engineering and CTO on initiatives
  • Lead a team of extraordinary engineers by team building, mentoring, project and deliverable management
  • Work with QA to ensure the quality of the features, including the creation and maintenance of test cases
  • Requirements :

  • Engineering degree with specialization preferably in Computer Science
  • 12+ years software engineering leadership experience driving enterprise application development
  • Proven experience delivering large scale, highly available production software
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical peers in software development from product inception through shipment
  • Experience developing Internet applications, preferably financial or operational applications
  • Experience as an engineering group leader
  • Hands-on coding ability in web technologies and application frameworks such as Java, LAMP, or .Net
  • Exposure to cloud technologies
  • Strong SQL skills and understanding of database / data modelling concepts, experience with Oracle is a plus
  • Strong analysis, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
