We are seeking a Database Administrator to join our team and help build our first responder’ capabilities for all of our Database Services.
As our Database Administrator, you will be responsible for a wide variety of activities specifically focused on responding / resolving / triaging alerts and tickets as well as operational tasks of capacity planning, installation, configuration, cloning, patching, upgrading, and performance monitoring of database solutions and related technologies / tools.
The key objectives for the Database team are to analyze, design, implement, and operate mission critical database services, which include the selection, design, and management of database solutions using Oracle, MemSQL, PostgreSQL and MS SQL (along with technologies which we have yet to even dream).
The responsibilities include planning, requirements gathering, specification, design, implementation, and operation of enterprise 24X7 IT solutions to exceed business partner expectations while maintaining compliance controls.
About the team : You will be an integral part of a highly skilled team of geographically dispersed architects, engineers, and administrators responsible for providing Akamai application teams and developers, database services that are fast, reliable, and secure for applications and services.
This team has designed and managed databases globally, which support a wide variety of applications like Enterprise Data Warehouse, Siebel, Hyperion, Enterprise Business Suite, along with custom applications across system and enterprise boundaries.
The team’s primary goal is to increase the ease of use, scale, and security of databases, while decreasing cost, downtime, and manual tasks.
The Database team is part of the Enterprise Infrastructure Services (EIS) group in Akamai's IT organization. Responsibilities :
Perform as Tier 1 Liaison, by responding to alerts and tickets by resolving or triaging as appropriate.
Monitoring database performance and metrics, while working with engineering resources to optimize and tune
Standardize and document procedures with an eye towards automating recurring and redundant tasks in order to reduce complexity and manual tasks providing consistency and higher uptime across services
Periodically provide 24x7 on-call technical support for mission-critical services
Work with various vendor technical support (e.g. Oracle Support) as required
Help to manage large, multi-terabyte databases in a high transaction, 24x7 environment
Provide compute, storage, and network support for Exadata and ZFS hardware platforms
Installation, configuration and upgrading of Oracle server software and related products, including patching
Administration of Oracle 12c databases running on Linux servers and Microsoft SQL Server including, but not limited to;
backup & restore, and database cloning & replication
Provide SQL and technical support (syntax, trace, tuning etc) for development teams
Qualifications : Basic Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar engineering field
3+ years Database experience, including deployment, configuration, management and support, with experience on how to support highly available transactional systems, and knowledge of Oracle troubleshooting and performance tuning for PL / SQL and the database itself, including routine automation experience
1+ years experience with Oracle Database components (e.g. Oracle RAC, Oracle Exadata)
2+ years experience with supporting database hardware components; compute, storage (NAS and SAN), network, security, and authentication (Kerberos)
3+ years experience with database management access and monitoring and advanced familiarity with most operating system commands / utilities on Linux and / or Windows
1+ years experience working with virtual environments and clustering technologies
2+ years experience in Storage+Server Architecture (Server Configuration, Security, and Networking)
Experience in Oracle 12c database in both Exadata and non-exadata environment
Must be proficient in all aspects of database administration including, but not limited to, RMAN backup & recovery, performance tuning, and proactive monitoring, Data Guard, Diagnostics and Tuning, Data Pump
Ability to perform both Oracle and operating system performance tuning and monitoring
Understanding of TCP / IP routing, VLANs, DNS, logging, and alerting
Excellent troubleshooting skills for database performance and issues
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills; ability to effectively explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical staff
Strong attention to detail with excellent organization skills
Good analytical skills

Experience with MemSQL
Experience with Microsoft SQL
Experience with Oracle tools; Cloud Control / OEM, ASM, RMAN and Oracle DB options; Compression, TDE, Multi-tenant, Partitioning, Oracle Active Data Guard, and Oracle GoldenGate
Exposure to scripting languages (shell + SQL / PLSQL) used to automate administrative tasks
Good understanding of the ITIL frameworks along with the incident, problem and change management processes and procedures
Willingness to take initiative and to overcome obstacles to achieve personal, organizational, and company goals
Willingness to expand knowledge of other data technologies
Passion for pushing the limits of database technologies and their use in the workplace as a means to accomplish business objectives
