Purpose of Position / Reporting Structure
We are looking for creative Hardware Design Engineers to join our HW Design Team in Costa Rica.
The candidate will design, analyze and validate solutions for ATE instrumentation. They will see designs through all aspects of the design phase, will work with vendors seeking the best use of new technology for continual improvement, and will participate in design reviews with their fellow engineers.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Analog Hardware Engineer include :
Hardware technical assessments, requirements and implementation plans.
Analog and power circuit design, simulation and specification margin analysis.
Power and timing analysis on signal delivery.
Circuit development including on-board power supply design, power regulation, control loops, magnetics, filters, and high speed circuits and signals.
Schematic capture, PCB planning and review.
Design validation plans and verification.
Design for reliability, testability, and manufacturability.
Participation in design reviews, failure analysis, writing specifications.
Assist with design verification testing and data collection, for proof of design goals.
Collaboration with semiconductor suppliers in resolving component obsolescence issues.
Working on customer issues with existing instrument designs.
Participation in industry seminars and ongoing skills based training.
Designing a new instrument for this challenging ATE market requires excellence in variety of disciplines including FPGA, Firmware, Software, QA, Thermal Design, Mechanical Design.
Hardware designers must be able to work as part of these cross functional teams and be able to navigate the challenges that occur in designing such complex products.
Basic Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Education Required
Qualifications : Education, Experience, and Skills
in conjunction with the Design Center Facilities. Applicants are expected to possess the following qualifications :
BSEE or equivalent with 8 -12 years of Design Engineering or Product Development experience.
Bilingual English / Spanish with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong problem solving and analog circuit analysis.
Skilled in circuits and system characterization, data collection and statistical analysis. Competent computer skills for data collection and processing.
Proficiency with Design & Simulation tools (e.g Mentor Graphics, Cadence and PSpice ).
Candidates should be familiar with Analog circuit design and implementation of complex high layer count printed circuit boards.
Broad PCB layout knowledge with strong understanding in one or more of the following technologies : Digital, Analog, High Voltage, Mixed Signal Architectures
Basic programming skills in C / C++.
Expertise with lab tools : DMM’s, High Speed Oscilloscopes, waveform generators, Spectrum / Network Analyzers.
Familiar with industry standard CAD tools such as Orcad, Concept, Allegro.
High Voltage Design (1kV) is a plus.
Ability to travel (less than 15% of the time. )
Good people skills required with the ability to relate to peers and the ability to help them overcome obstacles to project progress.
Ability to work in a fast paced and challenging environment.
Ability to recognize good and bad design practices.
The person will participate in a local hardware design team consisting of 4-6 engineers, which will report through a larger hardware design team located in Buffalo Grove, IL and North Reading, MA.
Ability to communicate ideas and work in a team setting, both in person and remotely to the US based team is a must.
