Job Summary

Receiving operational direction from the Senior Physician and reporting to the Chief Medical Director, the Physician provides a variety of primary medical outpatient services in accordance with the overall operation of the Student Wellness Center (SWC).

Working independently, the Staff Physician performs medical, diagnostic, treatment, and counseling activities, which require a licensed physician and are within the scope of the program established by the Board of Trustees.

The incumbent has the responsibility of providing clinical duties that include planning, coordinating, and evaluating ongoing medical care of students.

Collaboratively supporting student success in the bottom line purpose of this and all SCH positions.

Within a modern health, counseling, and wellness facility, the SWC provides medical services with operations similar to those of a large group practice.

  • Among the outpatient medical services are primary and urgent care; evaluation, treatment, and guidance for individual health concerns;
  • family planning; nutrition; mental health; psychiatry; sports medicine; podiatry; comprehensive campus health advocacy and promotion.

    Allied health services include laboratory, pharmacy, physical therapy, and x-ray. In addition, the SWC provides limited urgent care and referral assistance for employee work-related injuries and may provide first aid to visitors.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the alignment of resources and services toward creating open access, removing cultural barriers, and meeting the needs of all student populations from a diversity, inclusion, and belonging perspective
  • Develop synergistic working relationships with internal and external industry collaborators and perform research on industry topics to present recommendations and programs ensuring the SWC is current on relevant policies, practices, and protocols respective to CSU, State and Federal regulations, and accrediting bodies
  • Provide all students with high-quality, evidence based, holistic acute and chronic medical services, and mental health support, as well as counseling patients in preventative care
  • Swiftly and accurately update patient electronic records and compassionately address patient concerns to contribute to overall service and quality control efforts
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated skills in diagnostic clinical decision-making and critical thinking
  • Demonstrated ability to provide diagnostic treatment and medical counseling services
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently to prioritize patients’ problems based on urgency
  • Knowledge of ethics and standards of local and national medical associations and understanding local, state, and federal government regulations
  • Ability to quickly assess emergency situations and take prompt action
  • Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate an assigned, on-going clinical program
  • Ability to maintain a valid license to practice medicine in California
  • Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment
  • Ability to handle multiple work priorities, organize and plan work and projects
  • Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from a medical school recognized by the Medical Board of California
  • Possess a valid and relevant license to practice medicine in California
  • Possess a Drug Enforcement Agency license for writing controlled pharmaceutical prescriptions
  • Possess current American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) medical board certification in specialty such as Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Emergency Medicine
  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator (CPR / AED) certification as appropriate for the assigned duties
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a primary care setting
  • Experience working with adolescents or college age population
  • Board certified in family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, or emergency medicine
  • Completion of a one-year internship, or the equivalent postgraduate year of training
  • Two years or equivalent of increasingly responsible experience in the practice of specialty
  • Compensation

    Classification : Physician-Primary Care

    Anticipated Hiring Range : $15,550 / month - $16,200 / month

    CSU Hiring Range : $12,515 / month - $21,255 / month
