YOUR POSITION WITH COCHLEAR

  • As the Vice President of Embedded Software, you will lead and deliver the strategy for development of the product plan, delivery mechanisms and people capability for embedded software globally for the acoustics and cochlear implant portfolios so that Cochlear releases products which exceed customer needs and meet regulatory and quality compliance requirements;
  • supports research and technology projects; and minimises costs to innovate and deliver. You will drive value and create new opportunities from the collaboration and relationship with GN Hearing, Apple, Google and other third-party partners.

    The successful candidate will be :

  • A strategic leader who can best position Cochlear for success.
  • With 15+ years delivering embedded software to product.
  • Ability to deliver through scaled agile processes interfacing with hardware teams driving multiple projects on various time horizons.
  • Senior leadership as a manager of people managers who will continue to build the group from the current exception team of more than 40 people.
  • KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Accountable for the strategic direction of firmware and signal processing within the embedded software space and working closely with senior management to set strategy, priorities, direction and capability requirements.
  • Understand market dynamics and needs to deliver on the corporate strategy and provide opportunities for growth and share gains through embedded software functionality, including by leveraging standard bodies and external partnerships.
  • Collaborate with R&D management, marketing and others to support the development of an innovative and inspirational five-year Product and Services Plan and future strategy.
  • RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Ensures a unified approach to embedded software to create a global team that collaborates to deliver on Cochlear strategic goals through an architecture that supports current and future needs of implant and sound processor development and research and technology needs.
  • Ensures consistency and interoperability across firmware and signal processing deliverables across products and technologies by leveraging architectural thinking, design / code re-use, efficient test and tool deployment and improved infrastructure.
  • Develop products as set forth in the product plan that exceed customer expectations, continuously improve quality, and reduce the cost to develop, build and service.
  • Support the delivery of new technologies in a timely manner ahead of product development to de-risk product delivery and ensure continuous innovation.

    Drive proactive sustaining activity and prompt CAPA resolution.

    RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

  • Engineering degree and 15+ years delivery embedded software to product
  • Delivering through scaled agile process interfacing with hardware teams driving multiple projects on various time horizons.
  • Senior leadership as a manager of people managers who will continue to build the group from the current exception team of more than 40 people.
  • Track record of delivery of financial forecasting, talent planning, resource allocation and capability building to achieve business goals
  • Experience in influencing a diverse range of stakeholders (both internal and external) to manage trade-offs between conflicting program objectives and desired outcomes.
  • Experience in managing outsourced design partners both locally and globally in a Research and Development environment
  • Interest and ability to maintain a broad understanding of engineering technical disciplines (mechanical, electrical, materials and software), product and technology knowledge
  • ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION

    Communicate Cochlear's vision, strategy and plans to the department; ensure intra-department communication through formal and informal communication channels.

    Budget responsibility is about 10M.
