The Leave and Disability Master Consultant / Trainer will contribute deep subject matter expertise to Leave and Disability initiatives around training and development.

The main area of focus will be developing and conducting product and service training programs, supporting operational performance and product development and implementing continuous improvements.

As a thought-leader, this position will collaborate closely with key business stakeholders, internal and external partners, and Leave and Disability program leaders to ensure the program is successful.

The Leave and Disability Master Consultant / Trainer will possess demonstrated expertise leave and disability management and in workplace accommodations with strong knowledge of the FMLA, ERISA, ADA / ADAAA, and other applicable state regulations.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable and have experience with Integrated Disability and Absence Management (IDAM) programs and practices.

The Leave and Disability Master Consultant will work within a team of similarly-situated subject matter experts (SMEs), providing support to our US based operational teams, as well as teams located in Costa Rica and India.

The Leave and Disability Master Consultant / Trainer must have strong self-management skills, a desire to influence and educate, and an ability to translate business needs and goals into human resource capabilities.

In addition, the Leave and Disability Master Consultant / Trainer should exhibit exceptional facilitation and organizational skills, superior attention to detail and an ability to prioritize and scale in a fast-paced environment.

This individual will possess exceptional communication, relationship and critical thinking skills, coupled with a strong customer service focus.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility for the Leave and Disability Master Consultant / Trainer will be to operationalize new programs and continuous program improvement initiatives, design and deliver effective training programs, and mentor the development of our operational teams.

In this hands-on role, the Leave and Disability Master Consultant / Trainer will work closely with Leaves of Absence and Accommodations (DLS) process owners to develop best practice workflows, establish deployment strategies, create and deliver training, participate in quality and audit assessments, provide guidance to internal and external stakeholders, and be a source of expertise for DLS operational teams.

In this role you will evaluate our needs and current practices, and create and deliver a training development plan complete with materials, tutorials, instructions, and learning resources such as online modules and guides.

The ideal candidate will be confident public speaker and a devoted educator who is up-to-date on the latest tools and resources needed to improve employee training and performance.

The trainer will also be responsible for researching and selecting the best platform to deliver and utilize training materials.

The major areas of influence are :

New Program Feature Launches

Participates as learning and development Subject Matter Expert (SME) in implementing new elements of the leave and disability program, as defined by the DLS leadership team and in partnership with the DLS Design & Develop team :

  • Contributes to operational deployment plans outlining critical and best practice launch activities
  • Conducts new program initiative readiness assessments and establishes goals and success indictors to ensure successful implementation
  • Develops and implements standardized training materials, tools and resources
  • Conducts post-deployment evaluations to measure launch effectiveness
  • Supports the ongoing incubation of new features among the DLS operational team, many of whom are outside the U.S. in our Costa Rica and India delivery hubs
  • Continuous Program Improvement

    The Leave and Disability Master Consultant / Trainer contributes deep subject matter expertise to the continuous improvement of all DLS operations, as defined by DLS leadership and in partnership with the DLS Continuous Program Improvement (CPI) team :

  • Provides guidance with respect to best practices related to disability, return to work, accommodation, and leave of absence
  • Participates in assessments of program performance
  • Engages in reviewing compliance of work process flows, Standard Operating Procedures, and Service Level Agreements
  • Delivers data driven recommendations and best practices to improve program performance
  • Stakeholder Partnership

    The Leave and Disability Master Consultant / Trainer is viewed as a deep subject matter expert in the leave, disability and accommodation space :

  • Builds trust and credibility within the DLS team, and with key stakeholders and partners
  • Influences change to ensure operational standards are met
  • Contributes to growing the expertise of our stakeholders by participating in summit meetings, case reviews, resolution of escalated cases and consultation
  • Collaborates with legal, compliance and other stakeholders on regulatory / employment liability issues as they relate to policy development relating to a leave, disability and / or accommodation
  • Program Consultation and Ownership

    The Leave and Disability Master Consultant / Trainer is viewed as, and accessible as, a deep subject matter expert :

  • Serves in a consultative role to the DLS teams and our QA department on complex cases
  • Consults and partners with DLS program leaders and stakeholders to ensure programs are fully integrated across all DLS business lines
  • Serves in a consultative role in the design and development of new program features and cutting edge solutions to enhance DLS program services and performance
  • Apprenticeship Master

    The Leave and Disability Master Consultant / Trainer plays a key leadership role in refining and deploying an apprenticeship learning and development model, designed to bring all members of the operational team to a sound foundational competency in the domains of leave, disability and / or accommodation :

  • Works with our learning team on development activities
  • Develops expertise-based content for learning and development initiatives
  • Delivers learning and training activities, as assigned and consistent with the individual’s domain of expertise
  • Mentors individuals, as assigned, in their professional development
  • Participates as a preceptor in proctored learning and development assessments
  • An advanced degree or 10 years’ equivalent experience in Human Resources, Business, Integrated Disability and Absence Management, Workers’ Compensation, Risk Management, Education, or some other related field
  • Relevant professional certification (e.g. Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP), Certified Professional Disability Management (CPDM), Senior Human Resources Professional (SPHR), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), etc.).
  • Experience working with an both corporate and hourly workforce of significant size and complexity, particularly union and non-union manufacturing, distribution and / or call centers
  • Experience working with knowledge workers, particularly programmers and highly skilled technology workforces
  • Experience with providing leave and / or accommodation services from outside the U.S.
  • Experience with leave and / or disability laws outside the U.S.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities and customer service skills
  • Phenomenal communication, presentation and public speaking skills
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships and influence others while working in a cross functional environment, preferably with senior members of the business
  • Detail oriented with ability to analyze, problem solve, organize and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong critical thinking and decision making skills
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and ability to adapt and effectively manage change
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive employee information and adhere to strict confidentiality standards
