About the role

The successful candidate will lead the CO Payroll team located in San José, Costa Rica. This position will report to the LATAM Payroll Manager.

He / she will have the opportunity to make a real difference. The role requires a candidate with ability to manage and improve the payroll operations (metrics, compliance, controllership ) as well as to manage global projects.

The candidate will interact with senior stakeholders worldwide.

The key component of the role is to pay our employees correctly and on time with the focus on process improvement, consistency and documentation.

We are looking for a strong leader with excellent communication skills. The role is a fantastic opportunity for a payroll manager who wants to make a difference within our company, who wants to raise the bar for the payroll team, be the spider in the web and set the team up for success.

Other areas of opportunities : international projects, Six Sigma (Greenbelt and Kaizen) and expansions. This is a high profile region within Amazon and requires a manager with the ability to improve our customer experience.

People Management

  • Leading and developing a team, including : hiring, training and employee development; managing group workload and establishing priorities;
  • ensuring existing policies and procedures are followed; managing annual performance, targets; creating and monitoring appropriate performance metrics.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting / Finance or related field
  • Payroll Experience - more than 6 years
  • Strong vendor management skills and experience
  • Previous experience within a control or audit environment
  • Experience of leading and managing teams more than 5 years
  • Able to develop a professional payroll function which is scalable & flexible to meet the company needs
  • A minimum of 5 years in a similar role
  • Experience working with SOX compliance
  • Fluent English and Spanish
  • Vast knowledge in Payroll Accounting
  • Vast knowledge of Labor law and local legislation
  • Soft skills

  • Build, inspire and motivate the teams to raise the bar
  • Liaise with key stakeholders for procedural changes
  • Maintain relationship with key internal and external partners
  • Ensure compliance with local legislation, tax and social security laws
  • A strong passion for hiring and developing people
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
  • A work ethic based on a strong desire to exceed expectations
  • Strong analytical skills to identify potential impact and implications of issues and takes appropriate action to avoid future recurrences
  • Global ERP for Payroll and Workday HCM knowledge are a plus
  • Six / Lean Sigma Certified
  • CIPP, MSCC or other payroll / accounting / tax qualification
  • PMI Certified
  • Expat Payroll / shadow payroll knowledge
  • Experience with process transitions
  • Sense of innovation
