This position is a key member of Bay Area Business Unit Leadership team, responsible for and empowered to apply leadership, communication and problem-solving skills to ensure the successful execution of Business Unit EHS from start to finish.

This person demonstrates through experience, training and knowledge the ability to work with a wide variety of environments, projects and relationships.

They bring value by being able to support EHS site specific leads and project teams as well as the implementation and support of BU safety strategy.

The BU EHS Lead’s main job function is to develop, implement & continually improve an appropriate BU EHS strategy for DPR that will ensure :

  • At the very minimum local compliance, but more importantly through continual engagement the development of a true Injury Free Environment (IFE) culture as an integral part of how we do business.
  • Specific roles & responsibilities are as follows :

    People Leadership :

  • Actively engage with DPR, trade partner & client / owner personnel around EHS on an ongoing basis
  • Recruit & develop the EHS Team to support operations & DPR’s broader EHS philosophy
  • Support & guide the implementation of the DPR Safety Coordinator program on all sites
  • Support project management in achieving an injury free environment
  • Support Regional Safety and Safety Leadership Team in the development and implementation Global EHS strategies
  • Support BU Leads in their strategic support of the EHS Strategy
  • Tactical EHS Management :

  • Help familiarize DPR and Trade Partner personnel with the DPR EHS Policy
  • Liaise closely with other RISQ personnel to ensure alignment of efforts
  • Define, analyze & report key EHS performance indicators & benchmarks
  • Provide support to Client Pre-Qualification, Project Interviews etc. from an EHS perspective
  • Review Risk Assessment & JHA documentation for significant risk activities
  • Ensure the development of site-specific safety plan with specific goals and objectives with identified metrics
  • Ensure project team and EHS representative monitor the safe execution of significant risk elements on site including, but not limited to the following : Underground services;
  • Demolition & asbestos removal; Excavation & trenching; Piling; Temporary Shoring; Lifting; Work at height; Hot work; Confined space entry;
  • Hazardous energy, etc.

  • Ensure that EHS audits, inspections & consistency surveys are completed appropriately
  • Accident / incident response, reporting and investigation
  • Develop and deliver EHS training as required
  • Ensure that (on boarding) EHS orientation to all new hires
  • Help ensure that all workers are trained in accordance with applicable requirements
  • Help ensure observation, inspection, recognition, evaluation and abatement of hazards are conducted on a continuing basis
  • Help monitor the trade partners selection process and adherence to established environmental safety and health guidelines- Pre-qualification and CAP
  • Perform regular jobsite safety audits of work site activities, share findings, corrective actions and corrective plans with DPR project management
  • Administrative duties may include maintaining regional safety files such as safety training documentation, applicable medical certifications, environmental testing and special associated training, investigation reports including near-misses, injury summaries, leading indicator data and other safety and health documentation
  • DPR EHS also has the responsibility for overseeing development, implementation and maintenance of the project’s safety program which may include, but is not limited to :
  • Encouraging trade partners to incorporate the requirements of the DPR EHSP into their safety programs and safety orientation if theirs are less protective than those of DPR
  • Expediting corrective actions to address any observed or potential safety exposures to workers
  • Helping ensure that DPR project management and safety coordinators are continuously monitoring DPR and the trade partner's safety performance and expediting corrective actions
  • Overseeing the development and implementation of emergency response procedures, and helping to ensure that DPR and trade partner's personnel are trained to handle onsite emergencies
  • Assisting with the development of project missions, milestones and indicators
  • Implementation of our Corrective Action Plan for identified SPW and Trade Partners who qualify due to poor performance in safety.
  • Ensuring Project Consistency Survey is completed monthly on every project; and trended for improvement opportunities.
  • Communication :

  • Client / Regulatory (Industry Partnerships) EHS liaison & support
  • Support and implement specific EHS campaigns & initiatives
  • EHS Manager should use every resource necessary, including escalation, to ensure the maintenance of an injury free environment
  • Regular Communication to Project Teams and EHS groups (Project, BU, etc.) around EHS performance
  • Culture measurement- Leading Indicator reporting : Close Calls, Lessons Applied, Campaign, Best Practices, etc.)
  • Mentor and Coach Project EHS in communication- safety meetings, stand downs, trending, inspections etc
  • Safety Inspections & Trending

  • Ensure project teams are collecting their leading and lagging metrics
  • Utilize our software and data to perform project and BU trending
  • Analysis both lagging and leading indicators to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Develop actionable plans for improvements based on both leading and lagging indicator trends
