The .Net Developer / Technical Lead Consultant serves in the Technical Lead role relevant to Customer or Internal projects and is about ensuring project success through the selection of the appropriate technology to meet the goals of the project.
There are several competencies the Technical Lead must possess in order be perform the responsibilities of the position successfully.
The Technical Lead must be a competent technologist possessing the ability to understand, envision, design, implement and test the realization of business requirements as software.
They are ultimately responsible for the quality of the solution implemented, working closely with the functional staff to interpret the software requirements and transform them into a technical design.
Additionally, the Technical Lead must be personally accountable for themselves, to the team and to the organization.
The Technical Lead is responsible for managing the Technical Consultants on assigned to the given project and the work product they produce.
From a project perspective, the Technical Lead works with the Technical Consultants to ensure they understand the project, technology and methodology such that they can operate as independently as possible at their level.
The Technical Lead and the Functional Lead, together manage the project team. The Functional Lead is ultimately responsible for the functional appropriateness of the solution, the functional staff and the customer relationship.
The Technical Lead works with the Functional Lead, together they develop the trust and confidence of the client. The importance of the partnership between the Technical Lead and Functional Lead is vital to the health of the team, the success of the project itself and successful delivery of a working solution.
The Technical Lead helps the Functional Lead evaluate and negotiate requirements with the customer and the team. Keeping the project budget in mind, they also help establish the technical requirements around necessary level of sophistication to satisfy functional and non-functional requirements as well as efficient sequencing of features.
The Technical Lead plans and directs specific activities of the technical team assigning tasks to the appropriate team member based on skill and priority.
While they may also personally develop proof of concepts (POC’s), they may also delegate POC development to Senior Technical consultants working closely with them through the process.
Additionally, they generally tackle the more technically challenging project work or guide the appropriate resource through the process.
They also lead technology design discussions weighing all factors such as risk versus complexity and ultimately decide on a course of action.
The Technical Lead should stay of abreast of emerging technology trends, especially associated with .Net development, secure coding and environments such as Microsoft Azure.
