General Summary

Having significant industry experience of typically 10-15 years, this position requires the candidate to provide technical leadership & solutions relevant to the implementation, management, optimization and troubleshooting of Syniverse’ Network for both enterprise and service provider customers of Syniverse.

The candidate should possess a very high degree of experience and skill in managing design, specification, engineering, installation, testing, monitoring and maintenance of network routers, switches, VPN endpoints, load balancers and firewalls, as well as LTE technology-

related network devices. Typically, engineers in this role are aligned to Network Support, Network Implementation or Network Engineering.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Demonstrate Technical Excellence for IP Networking

  • Possess deep understanding of IP based Networks & associated technologies relevant to data center design & operations.
  • Provides technical problem resolution for network issues and performs troubleshooting, problem isolation and corrective action to restore service to Syniverse customers and partners;
  • this may involve participating in a crisis bridge during and after business hours, esp. in a support role.

  • Provides thorough analysis of existing network infrastructure and implements changes to support operations for new and existing business;
  • provide configuration changes, hardware and software updates for Cisco, Juniper, Citrix, F5 devices as may be required to implement the change.

  • Participate in network engineering / optimization planning sessions and provides recommendations on improving network stability & performance.
  • Take ownership of creating detailed designs and industry best practices for architecting a hosted cloud service from a network perspective.
  • Manages inter& intra-departmental issues through effective problem solving.

  • Conceive & execute plans for network systems support and monitoring tools
  • Participate in inter-departmental meetings for service enhancement opportunities, tools development, and reporting enhancements
  • Execute monitoring & capacity assessment tools for network elements
  • Analyze vulnerability & resiliency of network to perform disaster recovery tests quarterly, half yearly or annually and create coverage reports.
  • Provides Technical expertise & consulting to internal and external customers
  • Contributes to decision making process with other team members as well as Manager Surveillance & Restoral
  • Ensures reported issues and service interruptions are addressed within severity level guidelines
  • Communication & Operational Excellence

  • Champion ITSM processes for making any changes to the Syniverse network, after obtaining suitable approval from authorities.
  • Continuously optimize process for balancing efficiency with quality.

  • Communicate with Network Operations Center & Customer Service Hotline for information gathering, customer status updates during trouble resolution
  • Works closely with customer’s technical resources and management to resolve issues; provide updates and information as necessary to all levels of management
  • Quantify and describes complex technical issues to customers and internal personnel to promote quicker issue resolution
  • Provide training or tutoring to new employees or other departments. Share knowledge and best practices with other personnel via knowledgebase articles, tech talks.
  • Develop Procedure and Network Diagram Documentation and verifying network documentation against installed base.

  • Challenge status quo and research, recommend and implement new tools, processes and techniques to deliver network operational excellence and optimal customer experience from a network perspective.
  • Analyze most recent technology trends and evaluate their suitability to Syniverse’ business.
  • Job Requirements

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience
  • 12+ years Telecommunication Industry Technical experience
  • Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE) - Preferred
  • Juniper Network Certified Internet Expert (JNCIE) - Preferred
  • Expert data and voice network knowledge (WAN, T1, DS3, DS0, OC12, etc.)
  • Expert knowledge of IP Networking Protocols (RIP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP)
  • Expert knowledge of network technologies (DNS, Firewall, SSH, HTTP)
  • Expert knowledge of routers and router administration (Juniper preferred)
  • Expert knowledge of LAN and WAN switching components (LAN switches, Access Nodes)
  • Strong & effective leadership skills

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Additional Experience
  • 10+ years’ experience working for a Telecommunications Service provider in similar field
  • 6+ years’ experience working in an Operations environment
