The Ciena Platform Dependent (PD) SW team is responsible for delivering initial software support whenever new Hardware platforms are introduced.

The goal is to make new platform introduction as seamless as possible to the other software teams, so that they can focus on overall product features that are common to all platforms.

The team’s work involves working in areas such as Linux drivers, hardware abstraction layer, FPGA control interface, middleware, optics support to name a few.

We’re looking for a motivated and hardworking individual, interested in beginning their career in development and support for Embedded Platform software, and learning the interactions between Software and Hardware.

You will work with a team with varied strengths supplying to delivering software for next generation carrier grade routers.

What will you be doing in your role at Ciena?

  • Develop understanding and expertise in the software development cycle that makes high end router / switches work in a customer deployment.
  • From initial OS bringup, software drivers interfacing with the Hardware, abstraction layers that make accesses to hardware seamless, using SDKs to initialize and configure Terabit network switch chips, to configuring and passing traffic through leading edge optical transceivers

  • Develop software skills to design, develop, validate and detail the Platform bringup process
  • Contribute to integration of 3rd party Software Development Kits
  • Troubleshoot and fix reported issues, diagnose and identify root cause, debug and deliver robust timely fixes
  • Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related subject area
  • Strong programming skills with strong debugging and trouble shooting skills
  • Good understanding of low level software, manipulating hardware / FPGA registers
  • Exposure to networking fundamentals, operating systems concepts, Linux network stack and embedded systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, optimally able to collaborate with multiple teams across geographically diverse areas
  • Curiosity and passion to learn how sophisticated system work and make them better
