Migrant protection and assistance (MPA) make up a large proportion of IOM’s work in the region, and the primary role of the Regional Project Assistant is to support work in that thematic area.

However, given that the MPA Regional Technical Specialist (RTS), including AVRR and counter-trafficking projects covers on average at least 60% of the projects that support the Regional Office, the role of the Regional Project Assistant is critically important.

In order to provide technical assistance, oversight and monitoring, the RTS needs assistance. Support is provided in the context of the dynamic and changing migration flows in the region, and the related requests from governments (and missions) for direct assistance and technical support in this thematic area.
