We are seeking an experienced Director of IT who will have the opportunity to lead a talented team of IT and DevOps professionals responsible for supporting the cloud-based IT Infrastructure of a rapidly scaling software development company. Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer, this leader will be responsible for defining and driving the future of GreenSlate's IT infrastructure by identifying and helping set strategy, envisioning complex ecosystems, and inspiring teams to push the boundaries of what's possible. This leader will possess a clear vision of best-practice IT methodologies and have the courage to pursue innovative approaches to make GreenSlate's technology programs more efficient, resilient, and cutting edge.

This position will have an enormous impact on our success, by ensuring not only that the company can grow and work efficiently, but also by ensuring that the AWS infrastructure provides a dependable platform for our flagship web application to meet our client's accounting and payroll needs.

What you will do

  • Drive consistency and standardization of internal processes to ensure quality, consistency, and efficiency.
  • Provide solution architecture in finding opportunities to integrate internal systems, reduce redundancy, and increase system and cost efficiencies.
  • Partner closely with all other departments to understand their unique technology needs and take ownership over ensuring they have an optimum solution.
  • Interact with key business partners to recommend solutions that best meet the strategic needs of the business
  • Take ownership of the overall health, resilience, and performance of the IT infrastructure, all software systems, and the hosting of our own web application.
  • Work extremely closely with software development to support the SDLC, deployments, DevOps, cloud architecture, and more.
  • Conduct annual reviews, frequent one-on-ones with direct reports, define and promote a career path for professionals under your management. Grow the team capacity and minimize regrettable attrition.
  • Evangelize a rigorous engineering methodology when evaluating, implementing, or debugging software and systems.
  • Oversee the budget for all software and technical systems used across the entire organization.
  • Continue to push GreenSlate's IT infrastructure forward into cloud-based solutions.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to plan and execute large scale projects
  • Manage system changes and roll-outs to ensure buy-in from all layers of the organization and ensure they are well received and without incident.
  • Collaborate very closely with the Chief Information Security Officer to address any security initiatives.
  • Provide a confident, passionate, informed voice of technical thought-leadership across the organization.
  • Manages project planning, including allocation of resources, assignment, and coordination
  • Ensure the team is productive, motivated, and accountable.
  • Take accountability of 24/7 uptime of all critical systems by utilizing strategies such as monitoring, alerts, software, and service providers.
  • Ability to balance diverse requests and prioritize effectively.
  • Outstanding communication to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ensure rapid and effective IT responses to any GreenSlate needs, especially those from management and executives.
  • Sound, pragmatic judgment, and ability to communicate thought processes and reasoning behind actions.
  • Define and provide recurring reports of KPIs for the IT department.
  • Possess a mindset that is proactive ownership, solution-oriented, and focused on what's best for the team and company.
  • Strength in seeing opportunities to improve processes or utilize automation or self-service to drive efficiencies.
  • Extremely strong process definition skills, and the ability to implement them and ensure adherence.
  • Promote a technology-minded culture at GreenSlate and take ownership of training all employees in ways to utilize technology to work smarter.
  • Possess strong organizational leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and make quick data-driven decisions.
  • Knowledgeable about industry trends, best practices, and change management.
  • Strong work ethic, hands-on, detail-oriented with a customer service mentality.
  • Be a team player, self-driven, motivated, and able to work under pressure.
  • Results-oriented and demonstrated record of developing initiatives that impact productivity.
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented, comfortable working in ambiguous situations.

Who you are

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years in a management capacity and 7 years in a similar technical role
  • Experience leading a distributed IT team.
  • Expert in utilizing AWS Services both for managing IT infrastructure and for hosting web applications.
  • Experience managing a Windows-based enterprise IT infrastructure.
  • Expertise in managing Google workspace.
  • Broad and deep understanding of disciplined IT processes.
  • Experience both working in a dynamic start-up environment as well as a larger corporate environment.

Note: This position requires domestic and international travel hence proof of vaccine will be required.
