The Engineering Solutions Center of Component Solution Business Division currently has an opening for a Hardware Engineer for supporting products in the image sensor and sensing technology field.

This position will focus on customer support and partner collaboration for the automotive market, coordinating with Sales and Marketing members and working closely with Sony Semiconductor Solutions headquarters in Japan.

Products include CMOS image and ToF (time-of-flight) sensors and modules, and their related hardware (evaluation boards, cameras, modules) and software (SDK, drivers, libraries), to enable customer imaging and sensing solutions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

Provide front-line engineering and technical marketing support for customers and strategic partners.Image sensor evaluation and characterization using hardware systems, customer support using same, customer training, and perform lab characterization measurements using test and evaluation equipment with related automation and image quality software tools.

Support customers through their full product development cycle, including : evaluation, design-in, bring-up, debug, FA, quality and issues resolution.

Explanation and training of customers the product specifications, design requirements, interoperability and functionality, and roadmap alignment to create design-in opportunitiesCoordination with design, support engineering and business teams at HQ in Japan for customer issue resolution, project status, product requirements and project planning.

Writing product and system technical documentation.

This position will work on problems where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. The Hardware Engineer will need to exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results, and utilize productive internal / external working relationships.

Prerequisites for the position include :

Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with 6-10 years of experience.Relevant hands-on work imaging or sensing products and / or related systems or software.

Knowledge of semiconductor theory and manufacturing, digital design, analog design, power supplies, transmission lines and other fundamentals of electronics and semiconductors technology are all highly useful.

Understanding of imaging devices, image processing pipelines (ISP) and / or optics are highly desirable.Hands-on experience with electrical hardware laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, simulators and / or emulators, etc ) is required.

Vital personal attributes include : initiative, quick-learning, organization, problem solving skills, ability to work effectively and independently with minimal supervision, clear and accurate communication.

Strong documentation writing and communication skills are requisite (English essential, Japanese also helpful).Minimum of basic software development and programming experience, additional software development experience is helpful.

Experience with development tools for design, capture, simulation, synthesis, test and debug is expected.Technical leadership, learning of new systems and ability to work inventively are important qualities.

Ability to understand and gain expertise in various industry standards in quality and interoperability.Familiarity with mechanical drawings, CAD design (2D, 3D), PCB design, layout and manufacturing are all highly useful.

Requires ability to travel, domestic and / or international, up to 30% of time or possibly more; local transportation is also required.
