The Instructional Assistants at Most Holy Trinity School is responsible for providing assistance to instructional programs by assisting the teacher in achieving educational objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole.
The instructional Assistant assists the teacher in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
Duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned) :
Executes instructional activities with individual students or small groups of students following teacher direction and demonstration.
Provides assistance to students during special classes (art, music, etc.).
Assists students in special education and general education classes.
Assists in preparation of materials for class, classroom activities, assignments, location of supplementary materials from school library and other resources areas.
Implements behavior management programs designed by teachers and / or school psychologist. Counts and records specific student behaviors;
administers procedures in the positive behavior support plan.
Monitors student use of instructional equipment. Provides general maintenance of equipment including cleaning and disinfecting.
Serves as short-term substitute teacher for TK-8 classes as assigned by Principal
Serves as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected in the classroom teachers.
Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills.
Assists with student use of equipment.
Monitors the incidence and prevalence of designated health problems or medical conditions.
Observes and intervenes to redirect inappropriate behavior.
Assists, monitors, and guides the student to pay attention, participate in activities, and complete tasks.
Assists teachers including the transitional kindergarten, kindergarten, 1st grade, and second grade teacher.
Works in station rotation and helps instruct a group of students for one of the teachers.
Grades papers for the teachers and oversees students who are working independently to make sure that they stay on their individually learning track.
From 5 : 00 p.m. to 6 : 00 p.m., works as Extended Care Teacher for the students who are still remaining in the classroom to oversee student safety, as well as read to the students or work with them on number and letter recognition.
From 3 : 00 p.m. to 5 : 00 p.m. (with the exception of Thursdays when it begins earlier), work as Extended Care Worker to assist in overseeing students safety for those students who stay after school for sports, drama, coding, and tutoring.
Additional duties may including helping with homework club or helping outside with students who wish to play.
Education : Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of six months’ experience implementing educational programming and working with students as a teacher and educational aide.
