Job Description

The Plant Buyer performs and coordinates the procurement, scheduling and expediting of direct, indirect materials and service to meet production schedule and internal customer order requirements.

This includes the procurement of small tools, raw materials, supplies and services necessary to support manufacturing.

  • Monitors and minimizes inventories while ensuring optimum materials utilization through managing safety stock and engineering changes
  • Establishes and maintains supplier relations and partnerships while monitoring their performance
  • Identifies and implements cost savings / cost avoidance opportunities
  • Reviews and processes purchase requisitions and purchase orders while successfully managing risks, following policies and procedures
  • Serves as the key point of contact for authorized requesters, managers and suppliers to troubleshoot and resolve purchase requisition and purchase order issues
  • Must be able to prioritize own assignments, while focusing on key tasks despite limited time and resources
  • Resolves quality, pricing and delivery issues with suppliers
  • Interfaces with Accounts Payable and internal customers to resolve invoice and receiving discrepancies
  • Must possess the ability to maintain projects and critical tasks progressing when delays or problems occur
  • Works under minimal supervision while assisting less experienced peers
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Qualifications

  • Strong Knowledge of ERP / MRP Systems, BOM and manufacturing process
  • Must be able to collect, analyze and interpret manufacturing data in order to make decisions that may impact production
  • Tactical experience with lean principles, inventory management including material flow and delivery applications
  • Must have a good understanding of purchasing, scheduling and planning processes
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and negotiating skills
  • Knowledge of medical device associated supply base a plus
  • Experience with developing & implementing ordering policies
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to build and enhance solid working relationships that promote collaboration and cooperation with all levels of the company and suppliers
  • Must be able to problem solve and think independently in a constantly changing production environment
  • Possesses sound judgment and exceptional time management skills
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Access and Outlook
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, Associate degree or higher with coursework in purchasing is preferred
  • One to three years of experience in a procurement and manufacturing environment
  • Medical device manufacturing experience preferred
  • APICS or other industry certification(s) a plus
