As a successful Design System Specialist , you're comfortable thinking in terms of systems, connecting and making relationships across multiple teams and experiences, and leading workshops to help clients get the most out of their design systems.
You have experience with design languages and human interface guidelines and are familiar with frameworks, tokens, components, and patterns ideally as both a designer and system creator.
You excel at dealing with ambiguity and love solving ambitious problems in an agile, iterative manner. You can context-switch across clients and needs as priorities and demand changes.
Responsibilities
Facilitate and lead design systems workshops (remote and on client site) to promote best practices
Design high quality, reusable UI components that are used commonly across client products, including mobile, watch, and desktop form factors
Advise clients on how to improve the structure, adoption, and functionality of their design system
Design, code, and publish updates to client design systems
Collaborate with client stakeholders and teams to assist with their design system efforts
Serve as a subject matter expert on design systems internally and externally, providing specialized thought leadership to others in the industry
Communicate key product strategies through management presentations, press, whitepapers, publications, and speaking engagements
Assist or lead in the scoping and estimating of costs, responsibilities, deliverables, timelines, and project plans for design system engagements and client work
Develop documentation on how components can be used, and iterate on client systems by listening to feedback coming in or proactively solicit feedback
Qualifications
Must have some familiarity with delivering design systems, including any of the following : InVision Design System Manager (preferred)Custom design systems using tokensSketch librariesPattern libraries
Ideally be familiar with securing buy-in for design systems, establishing governance policies, and establishing KPIs and OKRs for the design system
Familiarity with relevant front-end technologies (HTML / CSS / Javascript) and their affordances and limitations
Extensive experience developing and implementing a design system leading to higher quality and more consistent product design
Experience with and strong point of view on how to best organize, maintain, and scale a design system
Excellent written communication and compelling presentation style that helps you get buy-in for your ideas
Have strong skills in systems design - able to partner with Product Designers to understand their product area needs in order to create global solutions across product areas
Have experience working on cross-functional teams with Product Management and Engineering as well as partnering with Brand teams to connect Product and Marketing experiences
Agency, consulting, or client services experience is preferred but not required
Travel Requirements :
Some international may be required to the United States, Canada, and other countries as needed. Candidates should have a passport or be willing to secure such documents.
