Mayor Sam Liccardo took office in January 2015 on a platform to improve publicsafety, to build shared prosperity, and to drive innovation in City Hall.
The Technology & Innovation PolicyAdvisor will be an integral part of the Mayor’s staff and will report to theChief Innovation Officer who leads the Mayor’s Office of Science and Technology(MOTI).
The Mayor released a Smart CityVision for San José in March 2016.Thisdocument laid out an ambitious vision around using technology to serve ourresidents better to build a safe, inclusive, user-friendly, sustainable citywhere the most innovative technology is tested in our urban landscape tobenefit our residents.
The Mayor’s Office of Technology and Innovation is charged with making San José the most innovative city in America. Current projects in this portfolio include bridgingthe digital divide, autonomous vehicles, Internet of Things, broadbandinvestment, and making city services more user-friendly for residents.
Going forward, MOTI will continue exploring new emerging technologies forCity Hall to better serve our residents.
Positions & Duties
The Officeof Mayor Sam Liccardo is seeking a creative and energetic individual who ispassionate about applying innovative technology to better serve our communityand to advance the Mayor’s vision for San José.
This individual will join a small,dynamic Technology and Innovation team that is responsible for executing andbuilding upon the Mayor’s Smart City vision.
The new Technology & InnovationPolicy Advisor can expect the following duties :
Technology & Innovation Initiatives
Technology Policy & Community Engagement
Support to the Mayor’s Office and City Manager’sOffice
Thisposition will also be tasked with staffing the Mayor and other City officialsat relevant meetings and events, requiring availability on evenings andweekends.
As exempt managementemployees, this position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
1. Education : Ideally a Master’s Degree, at minimum a Bachelor’s Degree, from an accreditedcollege or university, preferably in the field of STEM, Public Policy,Political Science, Economics, Business, or a related field.
2. Experience : At least two (2) to four (4) years of professional experience in a positionwith responsibilities and skills similar to the duties listed above.
Real-worldexperience in technology, startups, venture capital, management consulting,academia / research, digital marketing, and / or government is highly-desirable.
Note : Completion of a post-graduate degreeor relevant fellowship / internships will be considered).
