As a Business Development & Government Programs Director at Viasat, you are responsible for leading business development activities globally for Viasat’s Fixed Services Division covering residential and small-medium business opportunities, as well as any government subsidy programs to support Fixed Services.

In this role, you will need to run a small team and personally contribute to evaluate outsourced products or service opportunities necessary to accomplish Viasat’s Product team’s goals and successfully come to agreement on quality terms with such vendors, identify new market opportunities and partnerships vital to support Viasat’s global expansion, and identify government programs Viasat may be eligible to participate in, including applying, and discuss terms for Viasat’s participation in such programs.

You will need to evaluate opportunities by matching market needs to business value and work with multiple partners across the organization.

Successful candidates will be able to both think strategically and will have a proven track record of being able to guide teams to execute efficiently.

An ability to multitask and adapt quickly to changing needs is also crucial. The roles and responsibilities of this position include the following :

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a small Business Development team and be willing to personally contribute to the success of that team!
  • Be the face of Viasat’s business development opportunities around the globe as Viasat expands into being a global ISP
  • Identify, evaluate, engage and manage external vendors in support of Viasat’s Product team and government subsidy programs Viasat may participate.
  • Manage all phases of the business development lifecycle including opportunity identification and development, proposal development, implementation estimating, project scoping, client presentations, contracting and close
  • Translate customer needs into relevant results that maximize our existing technology stack
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering and other teams to ensure proposed contracted product specifications can be executed on-time and as agreed in a financially responsible manner
  • Capable of preparing a detailed business case for justification of new opportunities
  • Requirements

  • Experience developing and maturing a team
  • Strong team building, collaboration and communication skills
  • Ability to balance strategy and execution, excellent critical thinking skills
  • Ability to operate among ambiguity
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in business development, lobbying to the Government, discussing proposals or similar
  • Some experience in the telecommunications industry or similar (satellite preferred)
  • Experience developing business cases and detailed proposals for internal and external partners
  • Comfortable presenting proposals and negotiating with external partners, vendors or governments
  • Comfortable with technical details and capable of having credible conversations with engineers about design trade-offs
  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Preferences

  • MBA, JD or Master's degree
  • Experience working in or dealing with an engineering focused company
  • Experience working or dealing with lawyers, lobbyists, government agencies, or officials
  • Familiar with CAF II, RDOF, EBB and other US or international telecommunication subsidy programs
  • Experience with complex contract and negotiations
  • Demonstrated experience drafting proposal responses and negotiating Government contracts or programs

    Regular At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience.

    The starting salary for this position is $155,050 annually, but an offered salary may be higher depending on your skills, qualifications, and experience.

    This position may also be eligible for other cash or stock incentives, including Viasat’s Employee Stock Purchase Program, which allows Viasat employees to purchase Viasat stock at a discount.
