Under the direction of the Latin America (LA) Regional Business Development (BD) and Alliance Management (AM) Lead, and in collaboration with, and in support of, the line management of Global Human Health Division (GHH) in Latin America, the incumbent is responsible for leading Business Development in the LA Northern cluster, including : identifying strategic BD opportunities, establishing and managing cross-

functional and cross-divisional BD teams, analyzing, recommending and obtaining Sr Management approvals to implement the internal and external BD growth initiatives consistent with BD process and strategic objectives of MSD and LA .

The position reports solid line to Latin American Regional BD and AM Leader, in the Finance Corporate Development and Commercial BD organization.

  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following :
  • Work with the local and regional MSD business to identify and execute business development strategic and commercial opportunities such as co-
  • marketing, co-promotion, licensing, supply, distribution, acquisitions, joint ventures and other business collaborations.

  • Facilitate these opportunities through the ideation, evaluation, due diligence, negotiation, and execution phases in accordance with BD Process.
  • Engage relevant stakeholders in the development of business cases, establishing negotiation strategy, development of term sheets, providing input to contracts, and coordinating timelines for execution.
  • Form and lead cross functional project teams to include representatives from Corporate Business Development, GCA, Finance, Legal, MMD, GHH, MRL, Tax, Treasury, etc to analyze, develop and recommend appropriate courses of action.
  • Collaborate with internal and external parties to identify and address operational conflicts. This role requires exceptional relationship development and management skills.
  • Structure business case presentations and gain sponsorship and approval of local leadership and cross functional leaders to progress opportunities though approval gates.
  • Working with various cross functional and Divisional teams, conduct implementation planning to ensure successful transition and effective business operations to achieve maximum business value and performance.
  • Assist with Alliance Management activities as needed.
  • Prepare and deliver key communications on projects, portfolio, financial planning, etc as needed at the country level.
  • In meeting his / her responsibilities, the incumbent is expected to work as needed with other GHH, MRL and Corporate BD staff members to complete assigned projects.
  • After each deal is executed the BD lead will assist partnering strategy development and faciliatate the work of Alliance Managers asigned to execute implementation plans.

    Track, and ensure partnership performance as needed.

  • This individual will solve complex problems during negotiations and will apply sound judgment in reviewing and recommending potential transactions.
  • This will require business and financial acumen, as well as a deep understanding of the needs of the business line.

  • Projects assigned are of a highly confidential and sensitive nature and have a direct impact, ranging from moderate to significant, on the Sales and Income of the Company, both in the immediate and the longer terms.
  • This individual will be held accountable for aggressive BD goals, as defined by management.The role reports into the Exec Dir, LA BD & AM Lead, Corporate Development & Commercial BD.
